Synergy has been fortunate to enlist the help of two of North America’s top scientific specialists in forest entomology to lend support to our on-going research:

Welcome Ken Gibson and Dr. Jorge Macias-Samano

Jorge

Synergy welcomes Dr. Jorge Macias-Samano who joins our team as Forest Entomologist. Jorge hails from the Mexico Forest Service.  Learn more about Jorge here

Ken Gibson1

Synergy welcomes Ken Gibson who joins our team in the capacity of consultant. Ken comes to us from USDA Forest Service, and brings many, years of experience in battling bark beetles. Learn more about Ken here.

Our passion and focus at Synergy is exclusively forestry pests. We do not dilute our efforts by carrying a myriad of agricultural, urban- industrial and home garden products. There are literally thousands of known pheromones for insect pest species with new discoveries coming forward on a continual basis. By keeping our focus on forestry, you can be assured that we are knowledgeable and on the cutting edge of research for forestry products and services. In short we are leading the pack rather than following someone else’s lead.

All of the products we sell at Synergy are the products of research. In the case of tree protection products: BeetleBlock Verbenone, BeetleBlock MCH and BeetleBlock GLV’s, the research behind these products was extensive. It has taken 10-20 years of experimentation before these products are scientifically proven reliable, approved by Federal regulatory agencies (EPA and PMRA) and available on the market. New semiochemical products are seldom static, it’s a process of constant refinements that ensures we have the best products on the market. We are not just another product vendor, but rather a company responsive to your needs.

By being active in product development research, our clients are assured of having the best products currently available. For example the bi-color BeetleBlock MCH bubble caps were our response to client requests. One group of customers wanted the bubble caps to stand out against the bole of the tree so they could see where the product was in the previous years. For these customers putting the white side of the bubble cap facing outward was the solution. For other customers using BeetleBlock MCH in areas that had public access, placing the brown side of the bubble out was way to help conceal the position of the product. The reinforcing plastic strip used on BeetleBlock Verbenone is in response to customers needing to secure the packet to the tree in windy locations. Without the plastic reinforcing strip we found that customers were likely to staple the bottoms or the center of the packets and thus ruining the controlled release aspect of the product (and ultimately premature depletion of the pheromone).

When our BeetleBlock Verbenone first came on the market we had 50% more verbenone in our packets than the competitor’s product. Since that time the competitor has added more verbenone to their product (but failed to engineer a product that last longer than 60 days). What better validation of our leading position than having a competitor looking to Synergy’s innovations to also improve their product? We are leading they are following.

Within our focus in forestry, our scope is broad. We are looking for new and more effective and economical active ingredients to use in lures and tree protection products. This work is facilitated by having a newly equipped chemistry lab. We are actively conducting field trials both independently as well as with selected collaborators. We keep abreast of new research by maintaining contact with the leading researchers in Canada and the USA.
